An endless rare-answer dive

7 prompts, 25 seconds each, one answer apiece. Everybody can answer “name a country in Europe”. The game is whether you say France or Moldova. Rarer answers sink you deeper, and every point is ten metres of depth, so a flawless run lands at 7,000 m.

There is no daily cap and no sign-up. Play the shared daily dive to compare with everyone else, or run the endless mode as many times as you like.

How rarity is scored

Each answer carries a rarity weight derived from how often it actually appears in the language, re-based against the other answers on the same prompt. That gives six tiers, from the answer the whole school gave up to the one almost nobody names:

TierPointsWhat it means
Fathom100The one in a million. Full depth for a single prompt.
Abyss64Almost nobody names this. Deep water.
Trench32Genuinely uncommon. You went looking.
Reef16A solid pull — most players never get here.
Shoal8Common, but not the first name on everyone's lips.
Minnow4The answer the whole school gave.

Questions

What is this game?
A rare-answer trivia game. You get seven open prompts, twenty-five seconds each, and one answer per prompt. Answers are scored on how uncommon they are: naming the thing everybody names is worth almost nothing, and naming something almost nobody thinks of takes you much deeper.
How is it different from a daily-only trivia game?
There is no daily cap here. Endless mode deals a fresh set of seven prompts every run from the full answer bank, as many times as you like, with no sign-up and no payment. A shared daily dive is also available if you want to compare with everyone else.
How is the score turned into depth?
Every point is ten metres. Each prompt tops out at 100 points, so a flawless seven-prompt run is 700 points and 7,000 metres — the trench floor. Depth is only a presentation of your score, never a separate stat.
How is rarity decided?
Rarity weights are derived from real word-frequency data rather than typed in by hand: each answer is scored for how often it actually turns up in the language, then re-based against the other answers on the same prompt, so the obvious answer for that prompt always scores low and the obscure ones score high. Because it is derived, editing an answer set rebalances the whole prompt automatically.
My answer was correct but not accepted. Why?
Almost always because the answer set for that prompt does not contain it. Answer sets are the hard part of this format and they are never complete. Every answer typed, accepted or not, is logged so that a widely-given answer which is missing can be added in a curation pass.
Does a wrong answer cost me points?
No. A rejected answer costs only the seconds you spent typing it. That is deliberate: if misses were punished, the safe answer would always be the correct play and the game would stop being about nerve.
Do I need an account?
No. There is no sign-up, and your logbook of best depth and dives played is stored in your own browser, not on a server.
Is this the official version of another game?
No. This is an independent, fan-made game with its own questions, its own answer sets and its own scoring. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated by any other game's publisher.
